Ex-minister Anisul on 5-day remand in murder case

A Dhaka court today placed former law minister Anisul Huq on a five-day remand in a murder case filed over the death of garment worker Fazlul Karim during the quota reform movement in Uttara on August 5.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imran Ahmed passed the order after Investigation Officer Md Mahmudur Rahman, an inspector of Detective Branch of police, produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, a sub-inspector working at the court told The Daily Star.
In the remand prayer, the IO said Anisul was aware of the violence and killing. So, he needs to be remanded to find out the vital clues about the killing and whereabouts of others responsible for committing such offences.
Later, the magistrate placed him on remand.
On August 21, the victim’s brother Anwar Hossain Aynal filed the murder case with Uttara East Police Station against 40 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to the case statement, Fazlul Karim took part in the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5 on Uttara’s Jashim Uddin Road where the victim was shot. Later, he was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
